SIGNING | Lauren Cheshire makes the switch

Southampton Women's FC is delighted to welcome former Chichester City Ladies captain Lauren Cheshire to the club.


The fullback is Aaron Smith's fifth signing of the summer and brings in plenty of experience.


A winner and a leader on the pitch Cheshire spent eight years with the Sussex side making a 122 appearances for the Lilywhites in the last five seasons.


League titles and County Cup wins also came during Cheshire's time at Chichester as the club rose up the football pyramid to the FA Women's National League Southern Premier.


Last season the defender was instrumental in guiding the team to their highest ever league finish, third, along with winning the Sussex County Cup for only the second time in the club's history.


Manager Aaron Smith said: "Last season Chesh was my first team captain, at our previous club and during this time I have seen that not only is she a great footballer but she is also a great leader and someone that I would have in any squad if I could.


"Managing a football team is not only about how you get the players to perform on the pitch its also about selecting the correct bunch of players, with the right personalities, in a squad.


"I know that I can fully trust Chesh and she has a proven track record as a top class full back.


"To bring her to Southampton Women's, when she had offers at other clubs, shows just how exciting our journey is going to be over the coming season and I am delighted to sign her."
