The FA Women's National League is back and Southampton Women's FC are repeating their first away fixture of last season as they head to Somerset.

It was nearly a year ago that So'ton faced Brislington at the Brislington Stadium with the seasiders come away victorious.

A 3-0 win including a brace for Jane Yeates made sure the three points returned to Southampton.

The head to head favours the visitors with four wins in four scoring 18 goals and conceding three, including two clean sheets.

Brislington sit just outside of Bristol and near to last year's Division One South West Champions Keynsham Town.

So'ton will travel over 100 miles to face the Somerset side to open their campaign with promotion one of the key aims this season.

It is expected that Smith could hand out several debuts to some of his summer signings as he looks for an opening day win.

He has strengthened by bringing in three players from his old club Chichester City - Lauren Cheshire, Lauren Clark and Gracie White - plus Emily Wernham (Southampton), Aine McKeever (Maidenhead United) and Rose Kite (Reading) all joined the reds.

Paige Morgan Sawyer and Polly Wardle will be the two to watch for the hosts as they were joint top goal-scorers netting 11 goals each as Brislington finished 7th last term.

Looking ahead to the season opener defender Nat Bavister said earlier in the week: "We're really excited to crack on now, we know what we need to do.

"I think the players that have come in have only helped to strengthen an already strong squad.

"We were slightly unlucky last year and probably the season before that but hopefully it will be third tie lucky with the enforcement that we've got from other clubs.

"The players who have come in are good girls, they've gelled well with the team so far, had a good impact and are positive players.

"They've got grit and determination and this is exactly what we need to push on to make sure we get into Tier 3 this season."

Tomorrow's game against Brislington kicks off at 2:00pm and fans are welcome to come along to the Brislington Stadium to cheer on the team.
