MR| U16 V Warsash Wasps Black 2-4W

On a sunny Saturday morning, Southampton started their league campaign brightly, with early goals from Becky (1’) and Mia I (7’), in a local derby against Warsash Wasps Black. Becky pouncing on a rebound and Mia finding the net with a strike from the edge of the area.

Warsash had the chance to get back in the game on 28’ but their player's shot went wide of the post. It was Southampton though that continued to press and long range efforts from Charlotte, Lucy A and Ava narrowly missed the target. A Skye-Louise header from Charlotte's cross also went just wide of the post.

Southampton’s dominance finally resulted with their third goal. Ava was fouled in the area and she put away the resultant penalty. H/T 0-3.

A Warsash player was withdrawn at half-time due to injury. As they had no subs available, Southampton offered Warsash one of theirs, to even up the numbers. Lucy A and Hayley shared this duty.

It was Warsash that scored the next goal. Their player running towards the centre of the goal and finishing on 55’.

Emma had the chance to score on 57’ but narrowly missed the target in front of the oncoming keeper. This was brief respite for Warsash as just a minute later Southampton did score a fourth. Charlotte finding the net with a shot from the left of the area. Southampton continued to threaten the Warsash goal with near misses from Emma and Lucy C. It was Warsash though, that scored next on 75’ to keep them in the game and when Lucy A hit the post, while playing for the Wasps, it looked as though the game may have a sting in its tail. However, there were to be no further goals, giving Southampton a confidence building opening victory. F/T 2-4.
