Report | Under-16s v Eastleigh

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

The under-16 team responded well to the disappointment of defeat in the Hampshire FA cup final last week with an impressive display against a strong Eastleigh side, in windy and rainy conditions at Lapstone Park.

After an even first 20 minutes, in which both sides had a long range shots, Southampton took the lead.

Emma made and scored the goal, putting pressure on the Eastleigh defence, causing confusion and slotting the loose ball past the keeper.

The team was not put off by simultaneous injuries to Emma and Megan, and soon scored a second goal, an excellent volley from Rebecca after a cross from the wing.

Eastleigh were still in the game, and almost pulled one back, stopped by a fine double save from Izzy.

But the defence stood firm, the back four keeping Eastleigh quiet.

A great strike from Hannah put the girls 3-0 at half time, the shot from more than 25 yards unstoppable.

The second half kicked off, this time Eastleigh had the help of the wind. But Southampton held on to the ball, and by keeping the ball on the floor, pretty much eliminated the wind advantage.

The game ended 3-0, both sides worked very hard in difficult conditions.
