The under-16s played AFC Bournemouth this lunchtime on a bobbly pitch, which did neither side any favours.
The girls started slowly with Bournemouth on the attack from the start, Izzy having to make a smart stop in the first five minutes to keep the scores level.
Both teams were struggling to play on the uneven surface, but gradually Southampton came into the game - it was a tight first half, both defences on top, 0-0 at half time.
Second half saw a significant improvement , with most of the action in the Bournemouth half.
With 20 minutes gone, Emma was put through and struck the ball well from just inside the area - the ball hit the inside of the post, and bounced to safety.
10 minutes later, Zoe was put in, shot on target, and the Bournemouth keeper made a excellent save to tip the ball over the bar.
The keeper repeated this five minutes later, this time Becky shot well on target, another excellent save, tipping the ball on to the bar, again falling safely for a defender to clear.
The ref blew up shortly afterwards with the score still at 0-0.
Whilst this felt like an opportunity missed, this was one of those days when the ball would not go in the net, and we came up against a good keeper in excellent form - a good result against strong opposition.
