Report | Under-16s beat AFC Bournemouth

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

The under-16s took on AFC Bournemouth in a top of the table clash at Gang Warily, on a bitterly cold Wednesday evening.

It was the team's first match together under the floodlights and on the large Blackfield & Langley pitch.

Kick off coincided with the temperatures falling to zero, but this did not stop the girls pulling together an excellent start to the match, slick passing and movement putting Bournemouth under constant pressure, although they couldn't quite find their way through a solid Bournemouth defence.

Bournemouth next had a period of ascendancy, Izzy having to tip a shot from distance around the post.

The match was very equal as it moved towards half time.

Bournemouth conceded a free-kick 35-yards from goal. Charlotte placed the ball accurately just under the bar, a fantastic free kick. 1-0 up at half time.

Bournemouth came out all guns blazing, but despite a lot of pressure could not find a way through.

The back four of Elise, Skye, Megan and Mia F were in great form, and mopped up everything that came at them.

10 minutes to go, and Aaron made his final substitutions for the night, Lucy C coming on upfront.

Within seconds, she seized on a misplaced pass and put the ball in the corner of the Bournemouth net.

And 2-0 to Southampton was the final result. A great performance by every single girl who played, it all bodes well for the rest of the season.
