MR| U11 Winchester Flyers Tournament

I must admit to being worried before the first game today. New club, new coach, new players etc etc. I was wrong.

From the first whistle to the last all the girls were superb today. The passing from all players was outstanding, playing the ball out to feet from the defenders, right the way through to the forwards was a joy to watch. They should all take immense pride with the way they conducted themselves today, always trying to play football the right way. This comes of course from the excellent training that James has been giving them over recent weeks. He should also take pride in this (and a couple of Strepsils for his throat, me thinks)

No, we didn't win in the final (losing on pens) but scoring 12 and letting in 1 (a deflected free kick) shows how well the girls did today.

1st game Southampton Women's 1-0 Warsash Wasps

Brilliant passing across the board and a good level of possession throughout the game. Amy shot over the bar before Chloe slotted home from close range. Good start to the tournament.

Chloe 1

2nd game Southampton Women's 3-0 St Francis

More possession and pressure from Southampton Women's and Sienna's first game fitting in well. Amy fired low to open the scoring then Chloe scored from an excellent Victoria through ball. Chloe was rampant, scoring again moments later.

Amy 1

Chloe 2

3rd game Southampton Women's 0-1 Winchester Flamingos

Winchester score early from a deflected free kick. Southampton dominated possession thereafter but couldn't convert. Score doesn't reflect a game in which the girls played some fantastic football.

4th game Southampton Women's 1-0 Eastleigh

Consistent pressure from the girls cross the pitch, coming close from a corner early on. Leyla was outstanding scoring a deserved goal from a Chloe corner.

Eastleigh pressure nearly ended up with a goal at the end but they shot over. Summer also outstanding in the middle of the pitch with a some strong tackles winning the ball cleanly.

Leyla 1

5th game Southampton Women's 6-0 Whitchurch

Amy and Chloe excellent up front, Amy with a cool finish slotting hone. Leyla again strong, scoring after going past 3 players. A brilliant pass from Amy setting up Leyla for a good finish soon after. Amy was outstanding on the left scoring another 2, before setting up Leyla from a cross. Emily Harriman coming close also moments later Brilliant performance from all the girls.

Amy 3

Leyla 3

¼ Final: Southampton Women's 1-0 Winchester Owls

Nervy start, Emma coming really close after a couple of mins. Summer and Ella strong in defense. Good play from Chloe on the right results with her shooting just wide.

Brilliant possession/ pressure from the girls finally ended up with Amy just keeping the ball in play, finding Emma who tapped it home from 2 yards with the last kick of the game. Get in!

Emma 1

Semi final: Southampton Women's 0-0 Andover, 2-0 win after penalties

Outstanding match with both teams coming close. Chloe shooting just wide. Victoria doing good work all over the pitch. Leyla's superb throughball finding Chloe in open space only for her to hit the post with the last kick.

Extra time

Sustained pressure from Southampton Women's with 'enthusiastic' support from the side couldn't find a goal.

Penalties

Worse than watching England Vs Columbia....

Brewer outstanding! Saving both pens.

James Maiden, Coach, was very pleased with the performance, "I just want to say thank you to everyone that came down to the tournament today, I had a brilliant day out and I hope you did too! It's a shame about the result but I'm so proud of the girls they all played brilliantly, can't wait to start the season now!"
