MR| U11 V Saints G&L 22/9

Updated: Sep 24, 2018

How do I sum that up in a couple of paragraphs? (I don’t).

In my opinion, that was without doubt the best this group of girls has played in the 3 years since some of them started together with the addition of new players helping them along the way.

From the opening minute it was a strong performance on this miserable wet morning. All the girls seemed to have gone up to another level over recent weeks and they are a joy to watch.

Amy (to be called Johan Cruyff for the rest of this report) worked hard on the left flank for the entire game, her good work and crosses resulting in opportunities in front of goal.

The new girls coming off the bench both fitted into the side well, Ailish making some excellent challenges, Sienna with good passing. Southampton Women's continued to play some passing football throughout the first half.

The 2nd half was identical to the first, with Saints G&L working hard to drive the ball forwards, but Ella & Emily H were having none of it! Summer, who’s also playing at another level, bossed the midfield, her passing bringing others into play, in particular her play with Chloe.

Chloe’s played well up front today, moving well and sharing chances with other players, setting up Cruyff for an attempt on goal, from a throw in.

Leyla also came on from the bench was strong and it wasn’t long before she too showed how their summer training had paid off as passing and positional play was excellent.

Chloe and Leyla both showed good vision from outside the box, and good awareness of the keeper position. So many of our girls have visibly grown in confidence, Emily H epitomises this, her passing and awareness was superb today with an overhead flick near the end of the game which bypassed two of the opposition midfielders, superb.

The only person I’ve not mention is keeper Brewer, who kept focussed. Her goal kick to Amy in the first half was perfectly weighted and pinpoint sharp, setting up an attack.

James Maiden, coach said "Thought all the girls played brilliantly today, was good to finally see them all get some proper game time!!".
