MR | U11 v AFC Portchester Castles

Another sunny morning playing 9v9 on a slow but very large pitch, introducing the girls to the offside rule (thanks Stu for running the line). Tense even start against a strong team, some good breaks from both teams and good pressure all round. Real tenacious work throughout the team with majority of the time spent in the Portchester half. The pressure resulted in a Chloe free kick from just outside the box saved with an agonising rebound followed up by Emma finding the post. Portchester were quick on the break and defence worked hard.

Second half started with pressure on from Portchester and some more strong defending from Southampton with summer and Ella covering strongly with excellent support form Leyla and Chloe as required and Brewer having a workout in goal.

Some good forward thinking from defence not quite finding the mark. Chloe made a great break but was saw her taken down in the box with a strong tackle and out the game with an excruciating ankle roll. Persistent effort with a hard race for Summer in a chase down to the ball against a defender squeezing past the post for a corner- more frustrating tension with SWFC unable to convert the pressure out of 3 back to back corners.

With the ball back up in SWFC half for more hard work in defence and releasing the breaks for Amy, Ailish and Sienna. Many stand out players on the pitch but definitely a game that tested our defenders hard finally resulting in a combined team effort which was rewarded. Excellent hard work all round with Lily Blandford picking up player of the match for Portchester and Ella for SWFC. Outstanding performance from both teams, with the referee's Dad saying it was the best girl's game he had ever watched!

In a very tense game, the team put in 100% effort right to the last. It was a big pitch, with players playing out of position and playing the offside rule for the first time. Well done everyone.
