The opening minutes saw some strong defending by Sophie Moore and sisters Michelle and Victoria Orji , all of whom worked hard to get the ball back up field.

Some great control from Pippa Sproul followed with a great ball in by Pippa to Mo who ran round a Portchester player to score a cracking early goal in the 5th minute.

Soon after the opening goal, Portchester made a break but Sophie cleared the ball to safety and, following some precise footwork, a strong ball in saw Pippa Sproul score her first goal for the team and Southampton’s second goal of the match in the 9th minute. 2-0 to Southampton.

A swift attempt by Darcey followed and, when the ball travelled back down the other end, Victoria was on hand with some great tackles to win the ball back.

Some pressure by Portchester in the 13th minute resulted in a great save by Southampton keeper Emma ‘Safe-hands Stait’.

Esme Taylor made some strong passes and a good ball in by Sophie led to a goal attempt by Mo which came off the keeper.

Robyn Hagues made some excellent passes in throughout the game, including one in to Darcey which led to another goal attempt landing in the Portchester keeper’s hands.

Victoria and Michelle continued to play some great football to get the ball back up field and great play by Robyn to win the ball resulted in a throw in for another goal attempt by Mo, followed by a race between Darcey and the Portchester keeper to get to the ball first.

The keeper came out and won the ball that time, but a flurry of action from Southampton followed with a nutmeg from Robyn, a strong ball in by Michelle and a corner kick by Darcey in to Mo who scored a cracking goal over the keeper’s head in the 27th minute – the third goal of the game and Mo’s second.

Portchester followed up with an attempt at goal which went wide and a good run and brilliant pass in to Mo by Robyn gave Mo another opportunity to score, which went just wide over the goal before the whistle blew for half-time.

Kicking off the second half with a 3-0 lead, Poppy Baxter and Brooke Suddaby came on for Darcey and Robyn and a good run by Mo on the right hand side saw the ball collected by the Portchester goalie.

Some end to end play saw a strong kick by Emma Staid towards Brooke who made a good run before passing the ball back to Pippa before Mo found the goalkeeper’s hands with another shot.

Pippa and Brooke made some more great runs and, whenever the ball was lost, Michelle and Sophie were on hand to win the ball back.

A strong free kick from Portchester met keeper Emma’s hands, followed by a great save by Emma in the 40th minute and a great save by the Portchester keeper followed straight afterwards.

Just one minute later and Mo dribbled the ball round Portchester players to find the back of the net with her first hatrick of the season in the 41st minute.

Three goals and some great runs and strong play led to Mo being named a well-deserved player of the game. 4-0 to Southampton.

Darcey Maxted came on for Esme Taylor and had an attempt at goal followed by a touch by Brooke in the box.

Another great run by Pippa in midfield gave Mo another goal attempt which met the keeper’s hands before another good ball from Brooke in found Pippa.

Robyn came on for Michelle and some good defending by Portchester prevented another Southampton goal attempt.

A great free kick in the 56th minute from Portchester went just wide before some brilliant passing from Sophie led to final attempts at goal by Pippa and Darcey, with all of the girls playing to the whistle. We progress to the 3rd round where we will play Andover New Street U11 on 1st December.
