Hurrell impressed by Southampton's setup

Lee Hurrell says he is "impressed" by Southampton Women's FC's setup and that it was a "no-brainer" on joining as First Team Assistant Manager.

Aaron Smith has brought in his former number two to help with the charge to promotion next season.

Hurrell formerly of Brighton & Hove Albion, Bristol City, Portsmouth and Chichester City has been appointed as Smith's Assistant Manager ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

On linking up with Smith again he said: "When Smithy told me he was joining Southampton Women it was a no-brainer to follow him over.

"The success at Chichester last season was no accident, he put a lot of work into his planning and putting a structure in place that allowed us to really get the best out of the players that bought into it.

"I think it’s a club that’s really going places.

"The squad is strong and that’s shown in the two consecutive 2nd place finishes in the National League South-West the last two seasons.

"Everything here is set up for Tier 3 and we’ll be working as hard as possible to deliver that.

"I’ve also been impressed by the great youth setup here with really good coaches across the age groups, so I think it’s perfectly set up at the club to progress now and for years to come.

Hurrell knows there is a job to do and is confident that his experience alongside the developing partnership with Smith will serve them well next season.

He said: "I think I bring a strong analytical approach to the table, a lot of experience in planning and delivering sessions and a passion for player development.

"Myself and Smithy work well together, we share similar views on the game but also constantly challenge each other to be better too.

"I think we learnt a lot together last season at Chichester and I’m looking forward to getting going again albeit in different colours."

Their first challenge will be pre-season which starts on Sunday, July 7th with an away friendly against Winchester City Flyers, 1pm kick-off.
