FA Cup | Win on the road hands Southampton a home tie

Southampton Women's FC won 2-0 in the Second Qualifying Round of the Women's FA Cup against Marine Academy Plymouth.


Áine McKeever slotted home in the 39th minute assisted by Tash Angel from an E-J May corner to break the deadlock.


Then despite a plethora of chances in front of goal Southampton had to wait until the 89th minute for their second, Jane Yeates bagging her seventh goal of the season.


Kellie Warren recorded a clean sheet as she moved from the centre of defence to between the sticks while Rose Kite was away on international duty.


The win against Marine Academy saw the Reds progress to the Third Qualifying Round while also overturning last years defeat to the same side at the same stage.

Today the FA drew the next round of the competition and it has handed Southampton a home tie.


The Reds will host Southern Region side AFC Bournemouth on October 27th, kick-off 2pm.




Up next though Southampton host AFC Basildon in the FA Women's National League Cup First Round Proper this Sunday.


Basildon were relegated from the National League Southern Premier last season before rebranding in the summer changing from C & K Basildon to AFC Basildon.


Kick-off is 2:00pm on Sunday, October 13th at Romsey Town FC with entry £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and all accompanied under-16s get in for free.
